The debate on gender and women's rights was at the centre of an international meeting that ended last Saturday in Tangier. Researchers, activists, journalists, trade unionists, politicians, and association members… so many profiles who had to debate a certainly complex issue. "Feminists… or not?" is the theme of this important event.

Initiated by the Assyada Al Hourra Association for Citizenship and Equal Opportunities, Tangier-Tetouan, in collaboration with the International Francophone Network Gender in Action, this meeting was to bring together nearly 150 people of both sexes around the same table to try to explore new paths and new knowledge on gender, women's rights, women-men relations, as well as relations of domination in the South and the North.

Several Francophone countries participated in the various thematic workshops and cross-debates.

The debate took into consideration many factors: age categories, geographical, social, and ethnic origins, associative or institutional affiliations, statuses (research, advocacy, activism, field actions, trade unionism, media, networking/digital social network, teaching, etc.), but also points of view. A confrontation that was to give an idea of a subject that is beginning to impose itself in the public space.

This international initiative dedicated to feminism and gender aims to achieve four objectives, namely the situation of feminism and current development issues, the treatment of the recurring question of the links between feminism and gender, the questioning of gender and the intersectionality of situations of inequality and/or domination, and the questioning of the notions of universalism, culturalism, cultural relativism, and their intersection with feminisms.

The work of this event was to see the participation of women's organisations, feminists… or not, but certainly active in women's rights and gender equality. They were to express their conceptions and experiences of "gender", cross their views, knowledge, practices, and perspectives for action, research, and innovation in terms of gender and development in various geographical and thematic fields of intervention.
