Women's cinema is back in Salé. The Bourgreg Association is preparing to organise, from 22 to 27 September 2014, the 8th edition of the International Women's Film Festival of Salé, indicates a press release from the organisers.
And without seeking to distance itself from its editorial line, the festival does not seek to reproduce itself but rather to always move forward, whatever the means at its disposal, while safeguarding its identity as a festival exclusively dedicated to women in and through cinema.
Thus, the organising committee is increasingly anxious to lead the festival towards new horizons, ensuring that this event does not stop at its achievements, but that it attempts to conquer new relationships, to welcome a galaxy of personalities and artists who have made art in general and cinema in particular, the spearhead to fight against inequalities, injustices, demagoguery, hatred and intolerance.
On the programme for this edition, it is worth mentioning the official competition which will see no less than 12 feature films dealing with the theme of women enter the fray. Most of the films have been selected and have won prizes at international festivals and their release is scheduled for 2015. It should also be remembered that the films in competition this year include 8 films directed by women.
Furthermore, and in tribute to Moroccan cinema, the film directed by Younès Reggab will be screened at the opening of the Festival and in national and international preview.
The jury that will judge the films is composed of seven women and will be chaired by Aïcha Belarbi, sociologist, university professor, expert with the United Nations, accompanied by Moroccan actress Saadia Baadi, Bulgarian film professor Dina Iordanova, French producer Karine Blanc, Egyptian actress Ghada Adel, Burkinabe director Sarah Bouyain and Greek director Penny Panayotopoulou.
The organisers also wanted to pay tribute to Lebanese cinema, guest of the festival through the screening of three documentaries and two fiction feature films by directors known for their creations such as Dima El Horr.
A tribute will also be paid to a Japanese director, a Moroccan producer, an Egyptian actress and an Amazigh actress, guests of the festival, for their artistic careers.
In continuity with the previous edition "Women's cinema and the dream of an Arab spring", a forum under the theme "The image of women in women's cinema, from emotional condemnation to the establishment of parity", will be organised by Driss Kori, writer and film critic.
