More than 91 MDH for the development of rural roads

The Ministry of Equipment and Transport is carrying out a vast programme of reconstruction, widening, and construction of structures to open up rural communes.
More than 91 MDH for the development of rural roads

The Ministry of Equipment and Transport is working to consolidate the attachment of new rural communes to the Mohammedia prefecture and improve flows between the prefecture and the Greater Casablanca region in order to guarantee greater local mobility and quality. Its objective is to open up rural areas to accompany changes. "Our department, aware of the assets of the Mohammedia prefecture, is pursuing its upgrading strategy, as a set of integrated projects has been programmed and will certainly have beneficial effects on mobility, road safety, and other sectors," explains Mustapha Chekker, provincial director of Equipment and Transport. Efforts have targeted the strengthening of basic infrastructure, notably roads, rural tracks, and engineering structures. In this context, the provincial road 3307 leading to the centre of Sidi Moussa Al Majdoub, which was narrow and a source of problems, has benefited from widening and strengthening works for better traffic management and to improve road safety conditions and accessibility to the city of Mohammedia. The completion of this project, carried out for 8.6 MDH, is scheduled for the end of May 2013. Similar works will concern the main road towards Mesbahiat and the old landfill to ensure better traffic flow and more road safety. According to the provincial directorate of Equipment and Transport, this contract, estimated at a cost of 9.9 MDH, is already approved. The end of the works is scheduled for the end of June 2013. Furthermore, the project for the unclassified road (the Casa-Rabat motorway) is currently being approved. In this context, a budget of 7.724 MDH is reserved for the construction of this road over 11.849 km. In the same vein, studies for widening and strengthening will concern the section from Sidi Moussa Ben Ali to Chellalat. This project is estimated at 0.74 MDH. Similarly, a junction will be built at the level of Chellalat, national road 9, for a cost of 0.98 MDH. Efforts have continued for the construction of engineering structures. Thus, an engineering structure is programmed on the Oued El Maleh, located at the level of the Chellalat and Sidi Moussa Al Majdoub communes. The studies have been completed. The objective of this project, estimated at 0.318 MDH, is to facilitate accessibility between these two rural communes and Mohammedia. Regarding the bridge over Oued El Maleh, on secondary road 107 near the old Portuguese bridge, the works which began in July 2011 are continuing. This bridge, whose completion is scheduled for the end of June 2013, is estimated at 54 MDH. It is designed to allow for the control of flow during flood periods with the raising of the existing road, which will facilitate accessibility even for vehicles exceeding 5 tonnes. Another project is also programmed in the centre of Sidi Moussa Al Majdoub. The works, which will continue until December 2013, will concern the raising of the red line and the reconstruction of an engineering structure on the Oued El Maleh at the level of provincial road 3006 in the Mohammedia prefecture. A budget of 9.5 MDH is reserved for this project. Let us recall that most of the roads and tracks of the communes falling under the Mohammedia prefecture have deteriorated, accentuating road insecurity and mobility difficulties. The problems arise acutely at the level of rural communes, particularly during the rainy season, because of the weakness of the road network which hinders their development. Some national investors and MREs have carried out tourism projects in this part of the city, but they remain concerned about the pitiful state of certain roads which discourages visitors from going there.

The provincial directorate of Equipment in figures

Operational since September 2009, the provincial directorate of the Ministry of Equipment and Transport created in Mohammedia now has a new headquarters. The registration centre is equipped with queue management devices as well as offices equipped with computer tools to ensure speed in the execution of files. The centre includes the road transport, road infrastructure, merchant marine, and management and programming of the public maritime domain services. It should be noted that in 2012, the success rate for driving licences delivered by this structure was 65.33%. Out of 6,229 candidates, 4,065 succeeded in obtaining their driving licence.
