''Study of the social history of the Atlantic Sahara between the 17th and 20th centuries" is the title of a work by history researcher and lecturer Mohamed Bouzenkad, which was presented on Monday evening in Guelmim. The signing ceremony took place as part of the 3rd edition of the book fair organised from 4 to 9 May by the regional directorate of culture. The author, who holds a doctorate in history, deals in his work with the social aspect of the Atlantic Sahara, which extends from Oued Noun through Oued Saquia El Hamra to Oued Eddahab, focusing on its interaction with the socio-spatial characteristics that generated a unique economic, political and social mode. Presenting the work, Professor Maa El Aïnin Lgdali considered that Mohamed Bouzenkad adopted, in his study of the social history of the Atlantic Sahara, historical and anthropological methodologies, drawing his bibliographic sources from translations, fatwas, travel journals and history books. The work (175 pages, medium format) includes an introduction justifying the methodology, the content, the choice of the theme ''the social history of the Atlantic Sahara'', and five chapters revolving around economic components, their links with political and social actions in the Sahara, and demographic aspects that define the nature of the presence and the weight of each tribe in the political and military spheres.
