A Bulgarian magazine praises the capital of the Trade Winds

A Bulgarian magazine praises the capital of the Trade Winds

Essaouira is a mythical city with a singular history and experience as a space for multicultural cohabitation, writes the famous Bulgarian magazine GEO in its latest December issue.

In an eight-page report entitled "Legends of Mogador", the magazine's editor-in-chief, Georgi Milkov, retraces the rich multicultural past of the city of Essaouira, described by the journalist as a mythical place, steeped in history, witness to a millennial civilisation, and whose heritage is marked by multiple influences: Phoenician, Berber, Roman, and Portuguese.

In his report, the journalist emphasises that the unique setting of Essaouira has always been a source of inspiration for many artists. The city also hosts every year, the author recalls, hundreds of thousands of music lovers for an original event that has become the most famous on the African continent, the Gnaoua Festival, organised in Essaouira since 1998, which honours the African roots of Morocco and pays tribute to mixing and openness towards others.

Georgi Milkov highlights, furthermore, the values of cohabitation and multiculturalism deeply marking the history of Morocco in general and Essaouira in particular. This city represents, according to him, a space for the meeting of all spiritualities and religions. The journalist highlights, in this regard, the presence side by side of houses whose facade is surmounted by the Star of David, the cross, or the crescent, symbols of the three revealed religions, in a message of peace and tolerance.

He praises, in this regard, the efforts deployed by André Azoulay, advisor to H.M. the King, in the consolidation of values founded on understanding and respect for others, thus preserving this Judeo-Muslim symbiosis that makes the specificity of Essaouira and testifies to a Moroccan society characterised by its diversity and cultural richness.
