Young volunteers walk in Essaouira for childhood and the future

Under the banner "Let's walk for childhood, let's walk for the future", young volunteers from diverse backgrounds are taking part in the second edition of the peace and health walk which connects, from 6 to 12 November, the beach of Essaouira and that of Imssouane, over approximately 98 km, with the main objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle among the targeted populations.

Initiated on the occasion of the anniversary of the glorious Green March, by the Association of Nurses of Essaouira in partnership with Peace Corps Morocco, the Momarrid Electronic Association, and the Essaouira-Mogador Association, this walk brings together a group of young people of several profiles, nationalities, and faiths who will travel through beaches, mountains, forests, and trails with the noble goal of teaching healthy behaviors and lifestyles to the community of the regions crossed, encouraging sports practice, and engaging in actions to fight against tobacco and drugs and to prevent diseases, especially chronic pathologies and the disease of the century, namely cancer, and also to promote maternal and child health, including school hygiene for vulnerable and isolated populations.

According to the organizers, the walk is also an opportunity to transmit messages of peace and compassion between peoples, but also messages on health education supervised by young nurses and Peace Corps Morocco volunteers in favor of the populations met during the walk, including those of four Douars among the most isolated and poorest in the region.

In this sense, several actions are scheduled, notably the realization of health education sessions, the distribution of awareness brochures, the organization of competitions, games, and entertainment for children, and the sharing of messages of compassion, peace, and citizenship, through the reminder of the sacrifices and perseverance of the Moroccans who participated in the Green March. In a statement to the MAP, the president of the Association of Nurses of Essaouira, Mohammed Arif, stressed that this initiative is intended to be "a community wink and an example to be reproduced in different fields and territories" as well as a relevant way to commemorate the glorious Green March, through the effective mobilization of citizens so that they adhere to the development project initiated in the country.

"Our goal is to participate in positively changing or readjusting the behaviors of citizens regarding the field of health, with practical language, and through several workshops and varied games," he affirmed.

This walk, which also aims to promote social tourism in the region, will also be marked by the distribution of school supplies and other donations (clothing, shoes, hygiene products...).
