Organisation of shrimp marketing in Bir Guendouz

Organisation of shrimp marketing in Bir Guendouz

The local head of the National Fisheries Office in Bir Guendouz has just proceeded with an innovation in the field of shrimp capture and marketing. This innovation, which aims at the sustainability of the species, has been welcomed with great satisfaction by professionals in the sector. It consists of marketing the quantities of shrimp that have reached a certain size denoting maturity and throwing the juveniles back into the sea. This operation, which was applied during the course of last week, concerned a quantity of 8 tonnes which were sold at the auction. Which is, in itself, unprecedented. Because until then, the fishmongers in the Bir Guendouz hall had never known or applied this marketing system. Expressing his joy, one of the fishmongers indicated to us that since he has been practising this trade in the Bir Guendouz hall, he has never achieved such sales, because, he says, this new system has allowed them to enhance their product. It should be noted that this operation allowed for the release into the sea of a quantity of shrimp estimated at one tonne and the marketing of 8 tonnes, achieving a turnover of more than one million dirhams, which has never been seen in the Bir Guendouz hall located 360 kilometres south of Dakhla.
