ALM: What does your participation in the 36th edition of the Asilah Cultural Moussem represent for you? Laïla Lamrini: I have been participating in this event for the fourth consecutive year. I feel more and more attached to the city of Asilah and its Cultural Moussem. I am very interested in the activities of this event. Every year, I take advantage of my stay in Asilah to attend the colloquia scheduled as part of the Moussem, in which great political personalities, intellectuals, academics and researchers take part. I love this beautiful festive atmosphere created during this Cultural Moussem and specific to Asilah, which has become over time a city of arts and culture par excellence. I am fascinated by this beautiful tradition of frescoes embellishing the walls of its Medina during the summer period. What did you present during your concert scheduled as part of this 36th Moussem? I was, on this occasion, very happy to meet my audience in Asilah. I wanted my time on stage to live up to their expectations. I wanted to start with some beautiful pieces of Moroccan Andalusian music. I also chose to sing, during this evening, excerpts from Malhoun and Gharnati. I then insisted on interpreting some famous popular songs from the repertoire of the great singer Abdessadek Chekara. I then managed to revive the rhythm of this beautiful evening thanks to my interpretation of some religious songs of Madih and Samâa. I wanted to close my concert by performing with the Bahraini arts and popular traditions group. It was a beautiful surprise at the closing that the public liked a lot. Why are your stage appearances becoming rarer in comparison with other Malhoun singers? I have been used to working in silence since my beginnings as an artist. And I am determined to continue my research and studies to succeed in my career as an artist. I have succeeded thanks to the support of my family and my audience in making a name for myself. I am proud to be asked to give concerts both in Morocco and abroad. I have performed in a duo with great artists, including the French jazzman Jean-Marc Padovani. Can you tell us about your upcoming news? In parallel with my concerts and research in the musical field, I am preparing new songs dealing with current topics and which the public will discover me singing in Turkish.
