The Rotary Club Casablanca Mers Sultan has signed a first in the actions it carries out. A ceremony was organised to this effect yesterday, Thursday, to pay tribute to the world of business committed to the community.
The Social Entrepreneur and Corporate Citizen Awards for the year 2013 were thus presented for the occasion. Professor Mohamed Berrada was awarded the Social Entrepreneur Prize. A teacher at Hassan II University since 1969, he had successively held the positions of Minister of Finance, Ambassador of Morocco to France, Delegate to UNESCO, DG of OCP, and CEO of Royal Air Maroc.
To his credit is the creation of the Links Research Centre at Hassan II University, as well as the establishment in Sidi Moumen of the Oum Keltoum Social Complex, a charitable institution that benefits 1,200 people and works to support families in precarious situations in terms of education, training, literacy, and health. Similarly, Mohamed Berrada was behind the creation of the Elghali Cultural Centre, which will open its doors in the coming days and will provide training in theatre, music, etc.
"Concerned about the need for greater integration of the university into the economic, political, and social world, he created the Links Research Centre and helps students with better professional integration, but also to understand the mechanisms of business creation. He also campaigns as an administrator within the association "Injaz Al-Maghrib", which sets itself the mission of revealing to young people their potential and stimulating their spirit of initiative," stressed M'hammed Abbad Andaloussi, member of the Rotary Club Casablanca Mers Sultan and president of "Injaz Al-Maghrib". As for the Corporate Citizen Prize, it was awarded to Cosumar, Managem, and Vivo Energy Maroc.
Selection Criteria
The Rotarians of Mers Sultan have set a number of criteria to target the winners of this first edition. For the social entrepreneur, it was a question of the relevance of the action, the target population, the number of beneficiaries, the duration and degree of involvement, as well as the amount of financial investment.
As for the prize reserved for the company, it had to be a private company, with the emphasis being placed on the place that sustainable development occupies in its strategy.
Then come the relevance of the actions, support for civil society, the involvement of staff in projects of a social nature, and the amount of investment in sustainable development, with the CGEM CSR label as an additional asset.
