New leisure parks in Sidi Bennour

Gardens, squares, and green spaces now fulfil the role of lungs for the city, but also serve as places of resort and relaxation for inhabitants in search of calm and fresh air. Examples such as the Zerktouni garden "with its playground and fountain" and the Sidi Bennour urban park with its two swimming pools are very well maintained. One can also mention the gardens established, for the enjoyment of visitors, as a municipal park following their maintenance and development by the province of Sidi Bennour for the protection of the environment in partnership with the city's urban council. Another example is the redevelopment of the gardens of the Great Mosque Mohammed V and El Fath, which now include a pétanque court and are currently considered models in terms of cleanliness and safety. According to El Mostapha Draiss, governor of the province of Sidi Bennour, the city's ambitions are even greater: "We are only at the beginning of a long process."

The development actions carried out by the province have made it possible to preserve, complete, and beautify these spaces, which now rival each other in beauty. "Today, it is a matter of pushing further for the development of garden tourism, which will allow the city to acquire autonomy worthy of its reputation as a trendy tourist destination." He added: "Gardens associated with a historical monument increase the tourist impact." To ensure greater comfort in these spaces, many visitors have suggested the installation of sales points that combine hygiene and sanitation, instead of leaving the ground to certain street vendors who frequent these corners and seize the opportunity to offer their goods (snacks, ice creams, juices, sandwiches...) without the slightest respect for hygiene conditions. This means that such a measure would allow for better organisation of these spaces, the creation of new jobs, the fight against the informal sector, and above all, the preservation of the health of consumers. These changes benefit families who often make their preparations a few days before going out for N'zaha, bringing carpets, musical instruments, and baskets well-stocked with food, noting that this was an image of the inhabitants' joy of living.

Furthermore, the organisation of awareness campaigns for the populations to demonstrate the importance of these gardens remains essential and helps to preserve the nature and cleanliness of these havens of peace. Despite these efforts towards environmental preservation in Sidi Bennour, much remains to be done to achieve a balance between the pressures generated by rapid urbanisation and the satisfaction of the population's needs in terms of creating spaces for relaxation and distraction.

The Sidi Bennour Palm Grove: An action of no less importance concerns the regeneration of the Sidi Bennour palm grove, notably with the establishment of a communal nursery over several hectares with an annual production of hundreds of plants and the planting of hundreds of palm trees and various green spaces in the city.
