For days, even weeks, the city of Salé, the twin sister of Rabat and several centuries old, has been engulfed in piles of refuse emitting pestilential odours to the great despair of the Slaouis who find themselves helpless in the face of this distressing spectacle.
The usual rounds of household waste collection vehicles have ceased, giving way to plastic bags of all sizes filled with waste. When one goes hunting for information to understand why waste litters the arteries, streets, and squares of the city, the officials of the urban community blame the delegated company of the Salé landfill. The latter claims to no longer have the necessary capacity to treat the household waste of Salé and Rabat.
To be able to find a solution to the collection of waste from these two cities, each should have its own sorting centre. Which means that it is not for tomorrow and that the problem risks persisting...
Beyond this organisational question, some elected officials of the urban community of Salé point out that if the city is currently experiencing a problem with household waste collection, it is rather due to the procrastination of the company managing the Akreuch landfill under the pretext that some of its equipment is currently defective and that there is a financial issue in relation to the urban community.
In other words, the inhabitants of Salé are hostages of the dispute between the urban community and the delegated company in charge of managing the landfill.
