Security services in the city of Rabat arrested three small taxi drivers for their involvement, on Thursday, December 27, in a chase described as “Hollywood-style” targeting a VTC (Vehicle for Transport with Driver). The incident took place on the road near the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex.
It seems that the Taxis vs. VTC app duel persists and in some cases, it even intensifies. A video widely circulated on social media shows small taxi drivers attempting to surround a VTC in a scene worthy of a Hollywood saga, endangering the lives of the driver and passers-by, while disrupting traffic.
The video revealed dangerous behaviour during this chase, sparking a wave of indignation on social media. Internet users called on the authorities to intervene urgently to put an end to the dangerous practices of some taxi drivers towards workers using smart applications, thus threatening public safety.
This incident is part of a context of repeated “illegal actions” by taxi drivers against VTC drivers, a phenomenon likened to practices of “arbitrary justice”.
It should be noted that this type of phenomenon occurs frequently. This incident comes just a few weeks after the assault on a Russian diplomat and his wife by a taxi driver in Casablanca, following a dispute that occurred while using a VTC service.
