Ouezzane associative and political actors in solidarity with Mustafa Salma

Ouezzane associative and political actors in solidarity with Mustafa Salma

The covered sports hall in the city of Ouezzane hosted, on Friday evening, a solidarity event organised by the Moulay Abdeslam Ben Mchiche Association, with the support and coordination of the Ouezzane provincial council and with the participation of the support committee for Mustafa Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, an activist who has been on a hunger strike for more than 25 days in front of the UNHCR offices in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The event saw the participation of representatives from various political parties alongside Mohamed Cheikh Smaili, brother of Moustafa Salma, Ali Jiddou, representing the International Movement for the Accomplishment of the Territorial Integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, and actors from the occupied city of Melilla, Tetouan, and Chefchaouen.

A brief speech delivered by the activist Ould Sidi Mouloud in Nouakchott and broadcast via Skype electrified the room, despite the poor sound quality. Ould Salma recalled that his own misfortune is a testament to that of his brothers sequestered in the Tindouf camps by the Algerian rulers, adding that even if the points of view of the Sahrawis diverge on the solution to this file, this in no way gives the Algerian leaders the right to intervene in their destiny and create discord among the Sahrawis. Ould Sidi Mouloud also thanked all the associations, journalists, and everyone who expressed their solidarity with him and with the Sahrawis sequestered in Tindouf, whom the Polisario and its Algerian sponsors prevent from expressing their opinions.

For his part, Ali Jiddoua, on behalf of the International Movement for the Accomplishment of the Territorial Integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, denounced the silence of the Moroccan authorities in the face of the Sahrawi activist's suffering, inviting all parliamentarians from Tangier to Lagouira to organise colloquiums, demonstrations, and artistic and cultural activities to publicise the case.

Finally, the attendees held those responsible for this human tragedy accountable and drew attention to the consequences of the hunger strike he has been pursuing for nearly a month, which risks harming his health.
