The Ouarzazate Film Commission (OFC) held its general assembly and board of directors for the year 2013 on Monday in Ouarzazate, marked by the unanimous adoption of the moral and financial reports.
During these meetings, chaired by Noureddine Sail, Director General of the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM) and President of the OFC, it was decided to renew the current board of the Ouarzazate Film Commission until the holding of an extraordinary general assembly. The said board was tasked with preparing the organisation of two study days scheduled for 19 and 20 December, dedicated to ways to make this commission more effective and capable of accompanying the changes that the 7th art is experiencing in Morocco. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Sail stressed that Morocco has undoubtedly become the leader of the African continent and the Arab world in the cinematographic field, noting that the Kingdom will very easily exceed 100 million dollars in foreign investment in the field of cinema in 2014, 40% of which goes to the Ouarzazate region.
On this occasion, he expressed his wish to see this momentum continue during the year 2015, welcoming the work accomplished by the OFC for the promotion of the Morocco destination at the international level, through its active presence during international festivals and exhibitions specialised in the cinematographic field, which allow for establishing contacts with international directors and producers.
The changes that the cinematographic field is experiencing in Morocco impose a profound change at the level of this commission, allowing it to face the future with confidence, concluded Mr. Sail.
The Governor of the province of Ouarzazate, Saleh Benyettou, recalled that the economic activity of Ouarzazate is mainly articulated around the sectors of cinematographic production and tourism, noting that the creation of the OFC was intended to accompany the concrete results achieved in the field of cinema at the level of this region.
He made it known that the cinematographic sector in Ouarzazate recorded a qualitative leap during the current year, which had positive consequences at the local level on the socio-economic plan, adding that this result requires more work to preserve these gains, particularly in an international context characterised by fierce competition.
