Amado Vaz learns about the development dynamics in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra

Santomean Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of Sao Tome and Principe, Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz, learned on Friday about the all-out development dynamics in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region.

During a meeting with the director of the Regional Investment Centre (CRI) in Laâyoune, Mohamed Jifer, Ms. Amado Vaz and the delegation accompanying her learned about the investment opportunities, infrastructure, and various productive sectors that the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region abounds with, in addition to the achievements accomplished, as well as the projects implemented within the framework of the new development model for the Southern provinces of the Kingdom, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015.

This visit also allowed Ms. Amado Vaz to see for herself the volume of investments made in many promising sectors in this region, in several fields including maritime fishing, agriculture, tourism, and renewable energies, as well as major infrastructure projects and the potential existing in the transport and communications sectors.

During this trip, Ms. Amado Vaz had a meeting with the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Governor of the Laâyoune province, Abdeslam Bekrat, as well as with the President of the Laâyoune Commune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, during which emphasis was placed on the development momentum that the region is experiencing at all levels.

In a statement to the press, Ms. Amado Vaz reiterated her country's constant position in favour of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region, adding that this support was translated by the opening of a Consulate General of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe in Laâyoune, in January 2020.

The major projects that are currently being implemented in the region, she continued, embody the strategic and far-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI, stressing that this visit was an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in many fields.

On the sidelines of this trip, the Santomean head of diplomacy and the delegation accompanying her visited several development projects in Laâyoune, including the City of Trades and Skills, and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
