Held under the theme "Five years of diplomacy, contact, and proximity of the Consulate General of the Union of the Comoros in the Moroccan Sahara," this celebration was an opportunity to highlight the diplomatic, scientific, and economic relations between Morocco and the Union of the Comoros, which had inaugurated a Consulate General in December 2019 in the main city of the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General of the Union of the Comoros in Laayoune, Said Omar Said Hassane, reaffirmed his country’s unwavering position in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.
Said Hassane, who is also the dean of the consular corps in Laâyoune, emphasized the momentum of opening diplomatic representations in Laâyoune and Dakhla, noting that the Moroccan Sahara is becoming a strategic hub for meeting and dialogue among various cultures and nations.
He also stated that his country’s Consulate General has chosen a proximity-based diplomacy to make this bilateral cooperation operational and tangible. He highlighted that this 5th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate this historic event and to explore new avenues for future cooperation.
Furthermore, the diplomat noted that universities and vocational training institutions in the southern provinces host many students from the Union of the Comoros and other African countries, adding that they are considered future ambassadors of Morocco across the continent.
