This celebration, organised under the theme "Five years of diplomacy, communication and proximity of the Consulate General of the Union of the Comoros in the Moroccan Sahara", constituted an opportunity to highlight the diplomatic, scientific and economic relations between Morocco and the Union of the Comoros, which opened a consulate general in December 2019 in the capital of the Kingdom's southern provinces.
In a speech on the occasion, the Consul General of the Union of the Comoros in Laayoune, Said Omar Said Hassan, recalled his country's position supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Moroccan Sahara.
Mr. Said Hassan, who is also the dean of the consular corps in Laayoune, stressed the dynamic of opening diplomatic representations in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, noting that the Moroccan Sahara has thus become a strategic meeting point for dialogue between different cultures and nations.
He also confirmed that the Consulate General of his country chose the diplomacy of proximity in order to make this bilateral cooperation practical and tangible, noting that this fifth anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate this historic event and explore new avenues for cooperation in the future.
Mr. Said Hassan highlighted, on the other hand, that university institutions and vocational training institutions in the southern provinces receive many students from the Union of the Comoros and other African countries, noting that these students are considered as future ambassadors of Morocco on the continent.
On this occasion, the Consul General of the Union of the Comoros in Laayoune, the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Governor of the Laayoune province, Abdeslam Bekrate, and the President of the Laayoune commune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, visited a photographic exhibition highlighting the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage of the Union of the Comoros.
A rich programme was prepared to celebrate this anniversary, including, in particular, a seminar on development, entrepreneurship and youth and women's employability in the southern provinces, visits to companies and cooperatives, as well as intellectual and cultural exchange, artistic performances, in addition to the organisation of an exhibition of artistic products.
