President of the Laayoune Commune chairs the extraordinary session by approving the two agenda items

Members of the Laayoune Commune approved, during the holding of the extraordinary session of the Laayoune Commune Council for the month of July, which was chaired by Mr. "Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid", President of the Commune Council, and in the presence of the city's Pasha "Hicham Boumehraz" and members and staff of the Council.

two basic points, which are respectively:

01 Study and approval of the draft partnership and financing agreement for projects to renew and improve the efficiency of the drinking water distribution network, and the reuse of wastewater in the city of Laayoune

02 Study and approval of the draft partnership agreement to finance liquid sanitation works in the city of Laayoune.

The wastewater treatment plant project in the city of Laayoune is considered one of the ambitious projects in the field of sewage water utilisation, which will be implemented in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, within a comprehensive perspective that will contribute to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development.

This important project aims to protect the natural environment, improve the health conditions of the citizen, and preserve the water table, which is of great importance in supplying the population of the city of Laayoune with drinking water.

This project, which falls within the framework of the national programme for liquid sanitation and wastewater treatment, includes four pumping units, pumping pipes 6 km long, and collection pipes 4 km long, in addition to the treated water pipe 5 km long, where it will be possible to treat about 18,600 cubic metres per day of wastewater by the year 2030, which will contribute to providing the city's needs for water for irrigating green spaces, thus reducing the consumption of drinking water in this field, especially since the city of Laayoune is witnessing the completion of a group of green spaces within the framework of its development programme, which will allow for the rationalisation of the use of drinking water for the benefit of the population and for other uses.
