The medical services provided in the Laâyoune region have cost, until now, 11.5 million DH, while 24,626 cards have been distributed. These services concern radiological consultations, medical analyses, specific consultations, resuscitation and surgical operations. The new scheme, applicable in public hospitals, health centres and state health structures, offers the same basket of care covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO). The care covered includes hospitalisation, including childbirth, external specialised consultations and emergency medicine, biological analyses and medical imaging (except CT scans). Added to this are services related to functional exploration, inter-hospital medical evacuations in case of emergency and functional rehabilitation acts. To obtain the Ramed card, renewable every year, the head of the family must compile a file including notably the school attendance certificates of the children in his care and salary, collective life and residence certificates, which he must submit to the offices of the local authorities with an application form available on site. The generalisation of this card at the level of this region is also accompanied by a battery of measures to strengthen the health system in the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El-Hamra region, in terms of human resources, infrastructure and equipment. Thus, 8 nurses and 29 doctors, including 8 specialist doctors, have been assigned to the region which will also see the construction of a regional oncology centre in partnership with the Lalla Salma Association for the fight against cancer, for a budget of nearly 60 million dirhams. The creation of an integrated medical aid and burn treatment service and another modern Emergency service, which meets international standards, will also be carried out within the Moulay El Hassan Ben El Mehdi hospital, whose equipment will be renovated for a total budget of 5 million DH. The region will be equipped with a helicopter-ambulance service, whose services will cover the various Southern provinces, as well as equipped mobile emergency units; the value of each of these mobile medical units is around 5 million DH.
