Following the threat to suspend its activities and various complaints from members of the Laâyoune-Smara regional human rights commission, denouncing the harassment they claim to have been subjected to by law enforcement, the CNDH delegated Saâdya Waddah and Jamila Syouri to investigate the facts.
Upon arriving in Laâyoune, the members of the delegation, accompanied by the president of the regional commission, were received by the governor in charge of the wilaya's general secretariat, with whom they agreed to establish permanent contact, consultation, and cooperation between the authorities and the local commission to find solutions to outstanding cases.
The delegation then held meetings with the police prefect to inform him of the role of the regional commission, with which it is necessary to collaborate and respect its work, which consists of protecting citizens against potential abuses and any violation of their rights.
This meeting was also an opportunity to establish relations between the commission's management and local authorities, starting with security structures. It facilitated the creation of a permanent communication tool between the police prefecture's management and that of the regional human rights commission, whose role is training and raising awareness about human rights among security force personnel, and the rapid processing of complaints through permanent contacts, allowing for the evaluation of the results of the cooperation and its impact on human rights in the region.
