During its ordinary session for the month of February held recently and chaired by Moulay Hamdi Ouled Rachid, president of the Laâyoune municipal council, and in the presence of the representative of the local authority, the council proceeded to the programming of the budgetary surplus which exceeds 53 million DH and which will be devoted to the realisation of a set of projects in the city of Laâyoune.

This involves the realisation of a project in partnership with the regional directorate of the High Commission for Water and Forests of Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra, which focuses on the protection of the environment at the northern entrance to the city, with the creation of a green belt and the planting of trees in this area and its equipment with a drip irrigation system, as well as its rehabilitation through the construction of a fence and a sports circuit and the development of a space for children.

This surplus will also be allocated to the purchase of physiotherapy equipment for the benefit of the two hospitals in Laâyoune, namely Hassen Bel El-Mehdi and Hassani II, in order to expand the reception capacity of these two health establishments. As well as the purchase of devices for the benefit of the Moroccan Red Crescent.

During this session, several conventions were also signed, notably with the Ministry of Housing, Urbanism, and Urban Policy and the Southern Agency for the development of several public squares in the city of Laâyoune and the strengthening of public lighting.

Mr Ouled Rachid reviewed the recent projects carried out in the Boujdour province, notably in terms of roads, drinking water, and sanitation, which will see the creation of a second seawater desalination plant as well as the housing sector. According to him, the municipal services are prepared to collaborate with the external services of the ministries in order to breathe new dynamism into the development process in the region.

The president of the Laâyoune municipal council also proceeded to the presentation of the progress of the urban qualification project of Laâyoune, which sees the injection of a budget exceeding 500 million dirhams financed thanks to several partnership conventions. This project focuses on the development of the Route Smara boulevard, the realisation of a mega-conference centre, the development of the Oum Saâd square, the construction of an international swimming pool, and other leisure spaces.
