The sports infrastructure of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia-El-Hamra region will be strengthened in Laâyoune by a Regional Athlete Training Centre.
This centre is intended to offer local training to promising young athletes and trainees in various athletics disciplines and will also have the mission of generalizing the practice of athletics and training high-level athletes capable of achieving great performances.
The announcement of the creation of this centre, which was well received by the athletes of this region, was made during the National Federal Race held last weekend in Laâyoune in the presence of Abdeslam Ahizoune, president of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, and Khalil Dakhil, Wali of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region.
With this type of sports infrastructure, this region will be able to establish itself as a nursery for high-level athletes and skills, capable of worthily representing Morocco during international sporting events. It is also a project that places the human element at the centre of the sustainable development process and will be a real breath of fresh air for athletes from the three Southern provinces who will have the possibility of continuing their sports careers close to home.
The creation of this centre is part of the efforts aimed at upgrading and strengthening sports infrastructure, particularly those dedicated to athletics, with the goal of making them capable of hosting sporting events, and is an integral part of the national athletics infrastructure development programme, endowed with a budget of 578 million DH. This programme covers the realization by the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation of the Mohammed VI International Athletics Academy of Ifrane, five regional athlete training centres, a sports medical centre in Rabat, and 21 synthetic tracks in different cities of the Kingdom.
This national athletics infrastructure development programme aims to promote socio-sports facilities in the different regions of the Kingdom in order to ensure local training for promising young athletes and trainees in various athletics disciplines.
