The Minister of Justice and Liberties, Mustapha Ramid, stopped at the beginning of the week to look at the functioning of the courts in the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region.
This visit, which is part of a tour of the various jurisdictions of the Kingdom, aims to identify the needs of the jurisdictions of the Southern provinces in terms of human resources and infrastructure, and to learn about the pace of work and the conditions of the staff in order to remedy any dysfunctions in the judicial district of the Laâyoune Court of Appeal.
"This project places at the heart of its priorities the consolidation of judicial governance, the use of new technologies in administration, and the promotion of the infrastructure of courts and other structures in the sector. The justice department has put in place an advanced computer system and a training plan intended for the staff of the Laâyoune courts," confides Mr. Ramid on the sidelines of the visit he made to the court of first instance and the Court of Appeal of Laâyoune. He added that it has been decided to implement a maintenance and rehabilitation programme for several courts and to strengthen the network of jurisdictions across the country, with particular attention to the Southern provinces.
Mr. Ramid, accompanied by an official delegation composed of Khalil Dakhil, the wali of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region, and local notables, also proceeded on Monday to the inauguration of the new resident judge centre in Boujdour, which should contribute to bringing justice closer to the citizen.
Previously, the minister presided in Dakhla over the 7th regional conference of the national dialogue on justice reform under the theme "Justice governance and the modernisation of judicial administration and court infrastructure."
This journey by Mr. Ramid did not pass without a series of sit-ins organised in front of the headquarters of these courts by court clerks affiliated with the Democratic Union of Justice. As a reminder, the Laâyoune Court of Appeal encompasses the courts of first instance of Laâyoune, Oued Eddahab, and Smara, and the resident judge centre of Boujdour. More than 43,000 cases were processed at the level of this district last year.
