The city of Laâyoune hosted the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra Regional Forum on city policy on Tuesday. This forum aims, through effective participation of all actors in the region, notably local authorities, territorial communities, community stakeholders and academics, to jointly build the foundations of the "National Strategy for City Policy". It also aims to strengthen the foundations of good territorial governance advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for the implementation of various public policies. According to a statement from the Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning and City Policy, "in line with these commitments, the Ministry of Housing is organising regional consultations by inviting various actors and stakeholders, institutional public actors, elected officials, private operators and civil society, to contribute, through their opinions and suggestions, to enriching the platform of the draft 'National Strategy for City Policy' which will be presented for approval during the National Forum on City Policy. It adds that these regional consultations on city policy, which will take into consideration the various institutional projects and reforms underway in our country, in particular the advanced regionalisation project, aim to provide regional actors with a global and integrated vision of city policy, capable of overcoming existing imbalances and ensuring harmonious growth of large cities, medium-sized cities and emerging centres, given their central role in global and sustainable human development. "The government programme, in its part concerning the housing, urban planning and city policy sector, insisted on the need for action to implement a public, proactive and participatory approach to city policy. Based on the convergence of interventions, this approach should strengthen the reception capacity of urban and rural areas and make them much more capable of both producing wealth and growth, as well as guaranteeing spatial integration and social cohesion, for sustainable and equitable human development," the statement stresses. This forum was an opportunity to take stock of the urban development that the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region is experiencing, which has today become a construction site open in all directions.
