African Film Festival

African Film Festival

Founded in 1977 by Moulay Ahmed Alaoui, the African Film Festival remains in the literal sense of the word a true forum for the African cinematic field. And this, through rich and varied programmes that benefit both the participants and the inhabitants of the city.

This event, organised from 14 to 21 June and in which all specialists and lovers of the seventh art of Africa would like to participate, also remains a great opportunity for the Kingdom to invest in the field of inter-African co-production, while allowing African filmmakers to benefit from the technical and human resources available to the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre. In this sense, Morocco has concluded several co-production and cinematographic exchange agreements with several African countries, notably Mali (1989), Senegal (1992), the Arab Maghreb Union (1994), Egypt (1999), Côte d'Ivoire (2011), Benin and Niger (2013). This year, Morocco and several African countries are at the meeting of the seventeenth edition of the African Film Festival, with fourteen films in competition on the programme. In total, thirteen countries are represented, namely Tunisia, Rwanda, South Africa, Senegal, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Congo, Chad, Cameroon, Mali, Egypt, Zimbabwe and, of course, Morocco. "The objective of this great meeting of African filmmakers is first of all to make known the particularities and potential of the Kingdom in terms of cinema, but also to promote and support African culture and creations, create spaces for dialogue, communication and exchange of experiences between African filmmakers, as well as to work towards creating training and documentation activities in the cinematographic field", explains Abdelwahad Tamoude, member of the African Film Festival Foundation. Finally, it should be noted that in addition to the city of Khouribga, other urban centres in the province are also concerned by the festival programme.
