These projects that will change the face of the capital of the Gharb

Road infrastructure, urban equipment and upgrading, logistics hub, wastewater treatment plant, integrated bus station, TGV railway station... So many projects that aim to make Kénitra a leading economic hub.

Good development prospects for Kénitra by 2020. Infrastructure, urban upgrading, environmental, sports, social, and cultural projects... So many projects to make the city a major economic and industrial hub in the region. Concretely, the city's strategic development plan, which was presented to the Sovereign on 7 April and which amounts to 8.4 billion DH, contains several projects in different sectors.

Thus, the infrastructure and urban upgrading component will absorb 1.407 billion dirhams. It includes the construction of the new TGV railway station for 400 million dirhams. An amount that will be borne by the National Office of Railways (ONCF). It also provides for a new integrated bus station. Investment: 87 million dirhams. The project will be carried out by the delegated manager of the current station, the National Company of Transport and Logistics (SNTL). And that's not all. The plan projects the construction of a bypass to the north of the city that will connect the southern bypass to the city's access via Tangier. Its development should mobilise 50 million dirhams of investment. Not to mention the construction of a motorway interchange at the Aïn Sebaâ district in Saknia for 66.7 million dirhams.

The 2015-2020 integrated plan also includes a component to economically develop the capital of the Gharb. All for 504 million dirhams. In detail, it involves the creation of a logistics hub for 250 million dirhams, the implementation of which will be ensured by the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, and Logistics. The city will also have its complex of specialised public facilities for 40 million dirhams. The city's slaughtering industry will be strengthened by the construction of the second phase of the slaughterhouses in the Fouarat district. Cost of the project: some 45 million dirhams. In the field of commerce, the plan provides for the development and rehabilitation of several municipal markets (20 million DH) and the creation of spaces for street vendors for 18.5 million dirhams.

The environment also features prominently in the plan. It reserves an envelope of 1.26 billion dirhams, of which 600 million will go to the construction of a wastewater treatment and purification plant near the municipal industrial district and 120 million to the creation of an inter-municipal landfill and recovery centre. Added to this are the establishment of a waste sorting centre (20 million dirhams) and a plan to protect the city against flooding (30 million DH).
