«Khabbazate», a place of collective memory

For people from other regions of the country, "Khabbazate" is a name inseparably linked to that of Kenitra. According to an enthusiast of the city's history, the birth of the "Khabbazate" square dates back to the Second World War. It took its name from these sellers of round bread pancakes, prepared in traditional ovens and displayed in baskets. With the combined effect of the pressure exerted by new businesses and the appearance of modern bakeries, the sellers of bread and other derived products had to bow to this new reality and have almost disappeared from the scene. The peculiarity of the square is that it is surrounded by shops that are not grouped according to the same products marketed, as could be the case in other squares in Morocco.
