Guelmim, gateway to the Sahara and capital of the Guelmim-Smara region, has become an open-air construction site since the launch of its own development programme, which spans five years and involves the completion of several projects, notably concerning the city's bypass road, the development of urban roads, and the city's green plan. This programme, launched after several months of study, is the result of local consultation between the various partners in order to design an urban project for the city of tomorrow and remedy the main dysfunctions observed. This programme reinforces the efforts of the public authorities and lays the foundations for a global prospective vision capable of guiding the future of the city within a framework of consultation between the various partners of this production.
Thus, the first project underway (240 million DH) concerns the construction of the 17 km bypass road, which will cross the four entrances to the city. The second project (154 million DH) relates to the construction and development of urban roads over a length of 24 km. The third project (92 million DH), which concerns the city's green plan, focuses essentially on the creation and development of green spaces and public parks, including a 3 km corniche along the Oum Laâchar wadi. In addition to these projects, the studies provide for other achievements, namely the construction of a bridge on the bypass road at the Oum Laâchar wadi, the reinforcement of urban road lighting, the launch of road works for rainwater collection, and the development of pavements.
This urban development project should make it possible to develop potential, boost the economy, and strengthen the city's identity by highlighting elements of the urban landscape that contribute to enhancing its quality.
This region is also seeing the launch of consultations for the implementation of the contractual programme of the regional land-use planning plan.
