The city of Guelmim is hosting, from 14 to 19 May, the first Guelmim Festival of Maghreb Theatre with the participation of troupes from Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, and aims to contribute to the cultural, educational and artistic dynamic of the city of Guelmim. This festival is initiated by the "Adouar" association for free theatre, which aims to give a new dynamic to the artistic and cultural scene in the region and make Guelmim a space for the exchange of theatrical experiences. The association also aspires to create a framework for debate and discussion on the specificities of the Maghreb theatrical experience. Thus, this edition is part of a regional dimension with the aim of creating a space for dialogue and exchange between the countries of the Arab Maghreb. This edition also aims to highlight the potential and artistic vocations as well as talents in terms of theatrical staging, in addition to new methods in terms of the entertainment industry, according to the organisers. The latter are seeking to ensure that this festival establishes itself over the years as an unmissable event at the regional and national levels. This meeting, which has chosen the Maghreb depth for its artistic identity, is marked, among other things, by a tribute to the theatrical and critical experience of Salem Akouindi. The public of Guelmim and that of other cities in the Moroccan South will thus be able to discover throughout the festival colourful shows presented by participating Maghreb troupes. In addition to the presentation of plays, this event will include the organisation of a conference on "Maghreb Theatre and the alternatives of change", with the participation of researchers from Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco, as well as training in the field of cinematography, acting direction workshops and a seminar led by specialists. The organisers have also scheduled workshops on staging, body expression and dramaturgy. Several troupes will animate the evenings of this festival, including the regional theatre troupe of the Algerian city of Saïda, the Tunisian association "Theatre of Tomorrow" and the Tensift theatre troupe (Marrakech). This festival is also an opportunity for the organisers of this event to highlight the highly educational role that theatre can still play in the digital and Internet era, and as a means to communicate, exchange and strengthen ties. And which constitutes a factor in the development of mental faculties among young people and contributes to the strengthening of their creativity.
