The city of Figuig and its hinterland enjoy considerable natural and cultural potential that should be preserved and highlighted with a view to strengthening the tourist attractiveness of this little-known destination.
Oases, ksours, water sources, palm groves, a centuries-old tangible and intangible heritage, an ingenious irrigation system, remarkable fauna and flora, sand dunes, and crafts strongly marked by an oasis identity are all assets that predispose this province to a promising future, provided they are surrounded by the required attention.
"Figuig is characterised by the richness of its history and culture and by the diversity of its heritage and its natural and cultural wealth, which are capable of making it a tourist destination of choice," indicated Yaroslav Koval, Ambassador of the Republic of Ukraine, during a visit to the south of the Oriental region by diplomats accredited to Morocco.
This tour, organised from 11 to 13 May, is part of the parallel diplomacy activities initiated by the Diplomatic Foundation with the aim of allowing ambassadors accredited to Morocco to discover and better know the different regions of the Kingdom.
"We are proud and satisfied with this visit which allowed us to discover this Oriental region which has its specificity and which constitutes one of the cradles of Moroccan culture," stressed for his part the Ambassador of the Central African Republic, Ismaila Nimaga.
For his part, the president of the Figuig municipal council, Omar Aâbou, highlighted the potential that this oasis city holds and the efforts made for the restoration of its tangible heritage.
He pleaded on this occasion in favour of decentralised, bilateral or multilateral cooperation between local authorities and NGOs with a view to laying the foundations for a fruitful cultural exchange and meeting the challenges of development.
