In Essaouira, painters put their works up for sale for charitable purposes

In Essaouira, the date of June 21st is not only synonymous with the celebration of the Fête de la Musique. In the City of the Trade Winds, this festive day is also one of commendable initiatives aimed at improving the daily lives of orphaned or abandoned newborns.

Indeed, far from the tumult of the stages that will vibrate until Sunday evening, on the occasion of the 16th edition of the Gnaoua and World Music Festival, five Moroccan painters have agreed to celebrate the first day of summer by lending their support to a charitable cause.

Well-known on the national artistic scene, artists Mahi Binebine, Hassan Bourkia, Mehdi Qotbi, Najia Mehadji, and Abderrahim Yamou are hanging their works on the walls of the Borj of Bab Marrakech. A magnificent bastion of historical heritage built in 1846 by Sultan Moulay Abderahman Ben Hicham to defend the Medina.

Organised under the banner "Essaouira, solidarity artists", the proceeds from this collective exhibition-sale will be donated to the Darna Association. This organisation is known for its help and support for orphaned or abandoned newborns.

It should be noted that this exhibition is organised at the initiative of the Essaouira Culture delegation and the Essaouira-Mogador Association. Through this initiative, they intend to provide aid to an organisation that works in a difficult field.

"The participating artists are among the essential figures of the current art scene. They are, moreover, the subject of the first monographs dedicated by Art Point editions, in Casablanca, to the major artists of the Moroccan scene. These beautiful art books will be presented and offered for sale, always for the benefit of the Darna Association," the organisers point out.

The exhibition-sale offers art lovers around sixty works of excellent quality. High-quality paintings and drawings are exhibited on this occasion.

It is a matter for the artists to lend their support to the work of this NGO and, by extension, to the needy. An approach welcomed by the organisers, and this exhibition testifies to the place of art in society, and therefore the link between art and humanitarian work. It should be noted that "the proceeds from the sale of the works (presented as part of this exhibition) will be officially handed over to the Darna Association during a closing ceremony".

The opening is scheduled for this Friday, June 21st, at the Borj of Bab Marrakech, in the presence of personalities from the art world and numerous guests. The exhibition will continue until the end of July.
