Built at the very beginning of the 70s, the El Jadida International Camping Caravaning, whose entrance is located on United Nations Boulevard, just opposite the hotel school, has had its regulars for decades. Many families from Marrakech, Fez, Beni Mellal, and Meknes came every year to spend the summer period in this campsite. It is, in fact, 200 metres from the beach and a few minutes from the city centre. Entering the campsite, which covers a little over 3 hectares, one has the impression of leaving the city for a walk in the open countryside. The particularly shaded and flowery paths give it the appearance of a quiet corner of the forest. Because this allows one to get out of the routine comforts of houses and the stressful claustrophobia of walls. Moreover, this type of tourism, in tents or in a caravan, is very popular in Europe, where travel agencies specialise in camping caravaning destinations. But in Morocco, travel agencies ignore this sector, which is nevertheless very appreciated by tourists. In addition, the Camping Caravaning sites of Morocco have never been mentioned in tourist leaflets and brochures. As for the Moroccan National Tourism Office, it disdains this type of destination which could, however, if it is well sold, attract a large number of tourists despite everything. The El Jadida International Camping Caravaning, a municipal domain, actually has 40 equipped bungalows in addition to large-capacity pitches reserved for caravans and tents. There is also a restaurant-bar, a tennis court, and a general grocery store. Sanitary blocks are equipped with showers and other amenities in addition to basins for laundry and dishes. Electrical terminals are placed all along the paths and are willingly used by campers. The establishment has been classified as international since 1979, and it also received a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Tourism dated 1988. "The city's campsite is quiet and well-kept," it is written in the Routard guide to Morocco (2004 edition, p. 280). In recent years, however, there has been a decrease in the influx of foreign tourists due to a lack of representation and because of fierce competition from hotels, even if the two famous Marhaba and Doukkala hotels have been closed for a long time. Also, in a Camping Caravaning market that saw its attractiveness decline in 2012, campsites want to make a place for themselves alongside integrated networks and voluntary chains, by positioning themselves on quality or by opting for the strategy of camping as outdoor hotel accommodation. Their advantageous price/quality ratio, life in the open air, and the conviviality that characterises them were the ingredients of this craze. Thus, millions of people in Europe today favour this type of accommodation for summer holidays. The trend continues with eco-chic camping or "glamping" (a neologism derived from the association of the words glamour and camping), which proposes to combine comfort and respect for the environment. Thus, we now speak of outdoor hotel accommodation.
Regarding the El Jadida camping caravaning, which was considered the best campsite in Morocco, it was fiercely competed with by those of Agadir and Tangier (private), because the managers of these two cities presented them with facilities so that they could proceed with the development and renovation of the premises in order to offer good services to customers. So, for the last ten years, the activity has experienced a great boom thanks to the will of the city managers of Agadir and Tangier who encouraged the campsites in their cities to exploit their means in marketing and communication in order to attract and retain customers.
And if the El Jadida campsite wants to restore its image, it must focus on the quality of accommodation, equipment, services, and animation. It must at all costs seek above all to develop by rallying, by targeting "good professionals", and why not establish a partnership agreement with the hotel school that is located just opposite… On the other hand, recently, and more precisely during the session of 2 July 2014, the municipal council approved the decision of the final transfer of the campsite to its tenant. As a reminder, this campsite is the property of the municipality of El Jadida. Its buyer, who had been renting it since 1978-1979, had renovated it after the floods that El Jadida experienced in 1998. And after this decision of final transfer, the buyer must commit to promoting the campsite, to upgrading it globally, and to raising it to the rank of the best campsites in the world while keeping it in its current zone. And this, within the framework of the upgrading of the city of El Jadida. But when will the radical rehabilitation of this campsite, which was once one of the jewels of tourism in El Jadida, take place? According to our sources, the development, redevelopment, and renovation of this campsite will require a budget of 2.5 million dirhams for a duration of three years. It is true that the buyer of the campsite has already drawn up a framework plan for the redevelopment, renovation, and total development of the campsite. However, he must rely on the "Camping Qualité" charter established in Europe and which is based on 5 qualitative points of the service offered to holidaymakers, namely a warm welcome, irreproachable cleanliness throughout the opening period, precise and true information, a private, neat, and tastefully arranged pitch with a concern for aesthetics in harmony with the environment and, finally, a valued and respected environment. Dynamism of the camping-caravaning sector: The dynamism of the sector is partly linked to the great adaptability of site operators in the face of increasingly demanding demand, mainly in favour of greater comfort and better quality. To meet this, the offer has diversified with different forms of accommodation (light leisure dwellings, mobile homes, caravans, etc.) and services offering numerous amenities and entertainment.
In addition, landscaping and energy savings are priorities for "Camping Qualité", thus participating in the preservation of an increasingly threatened environment (involvement in sustainable development). And this, without forgetting that the diversity of the accommodation offer also meets all types of consumer expectations: pitches for tents, caravans, or motorhomes, or rentals of furnished tents, mobile homes, chalets, bungalows, sports fields (volleyball, basketball, football, and tennis), ping-pong, swimming pool, games for children, pétanque, playground, barbecue…
