It was on the occasion of the fourth National Meeting of the Art of Caricature, which ended on June 11. According to Larbi Sebbane, the cartoonist lives haunted by his work and is always looking for ideas for his works. "He is preoccupied with the problems of society," he says.
An engaged cartoonist, Larbi Sebbane is a founding member of the League of Arab Cartoonists. He began his professional life as a drawing teacher before practicing the profession of cartoonist in the written press. He contributed in 1978 to the creation of the first satirical cartoon newspaper in Morocco. But he managed to make himself better known when he worked in the daily Al Alam. He thus established himself among the great cartoonists in the Arab world. He was banned from practicing in the press in 1986 and 1987 for his political orientations. He received in 1981 the prize of the third exhibition of caricatures in Damascus in Syria. Larbi Sebbane was awarded in 1991 the prize of the exhibition on "The Third World" in Egypt. He was distinguished in 1991 by Radio Tanger as the personality of the year. At 62, Larbi Sebbane has lost none of his dynamism and his love for his profession. He continues to enrich, through his works, the art of caricature.
Organized by the Plastic Spaces Association, the work of this four-day event was inaugurated by the opening of the caricature exhibition at the historic site of the Kasbah. The programming of this fourth edition included workshops and meetings with about twenty cartoonists at the famous Outa Hmmam square. And like the three previous editions, a large number of passers-by and tourists took part. Some wanted to learn some rudimentary elements about the art of caricature. Others found great pleasure in having their portrait done by one of the artists participating in this event.
In addition to the exhibition and workshops, the program included a round table around the theme of this fourth edition, musical and artistic evenings as well as visits to historic and tourist sites, located in the city center or on the outskirts of Chefchaouen.
