Combating parasitic diseases in goats

A training day on methods for combating parasitic diseases in goats was recently organised at the INRA in Tangier for the benefit of breeders in the Tangier, Tetouan and Chefchaouen region, in collaboration with the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute and the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of Tangier-Tetouan.
Combating parasitic diseases in goats

This day aimed to raise producers' awareness of the main parasitic diseases affecting the goat herd in the region as well as the prophylaxis to be put in place to limit their impact on herd productivity. This training day is part of a scientific partnership project between the INRA of Tangier and the University of Namur in Belgium, which benefits from the support of the Belgian Applied Research Fund (FRAB). It is a multidisciplinary project that conducts fundamental and applied research oriented towards the needs of the goat herd in northern Morocco.

A few weeks earlier, the INRA of Tangier had organised two training days on goat artificial insemination for about twenty executives and technicians from the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of Tangier-Tetouan, the Chamber of Agriculture of Tangier-Tetouan and the National Sheep and Goat Association (ANOC). The objective is to improve the technical level of development agents in the goat sector and thus facilitate the implementation of this reproduction technique in the Northern region.

This meeting is part of the Moroccan-Belgian scientific cooperation project entitled "Study of the production capital of goat farming in the north of the Kingdom and proposal for sustainable development paths". Let us recall that the Regional Agricultural Plan of the Tangier-Tetouan region provides for the creation of a goat artificial insemination centre to contribute to the development of the goat sector in the region. This sector plays a very important socio-economic role.
