The city of Boujdour has just acquired a new handicraft complex for a cost estimated at more than 7 million dirhams, which will be a real tool to support the artisans of the Boujdour prefecture.
For her first official visit to the Southern provinces, the Minister of Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatèma Marouane, chose the city of Boujdour to inaugurate a new modern handicraft complex that is capable of reflecting the artisanal know-how in the region, as well as the richness and authenticity of the local heritage. This new infrastructure aims at the promotion of this sector in this province of the Kingdom and its integration into the local and national economic fabric, the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the artisans, the valorisation of artisanal products, and the supervision of this trade body.
Thus, this new infrastructure extends over an area of 2,000 m2, of which 1,000 m2 is covered, and includes sewing, ironwork, and carpentry workshops, training rooms, a meeting room and an exhibition hall, a library, a multi-purpose room, and an administrative block.
This complex, which brings together a varied range of artisanal and utility products exposed for sale, is intended to be an instrument for the promotion of the sector, the safeguarding of cultural identity, the transmission of authentic know-how, and the adaptation of artisanal products to qualitative standards and market constraints. This complex contains traditional jewellery and clothing, wood carvings, leather goods, embroidery creations, wrought iron objects, pottery, as well as other cosmetic products and original and decorative gadgets.
Ms. Marouane had also proceeded to the inauguration of the Regional Handicraft Fair marked by the participation of about forty exhibitors from the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra, Oued Eddahab-Lagouira, and Guelmim-Smara regions, which constitutes a strong stimulus for the artisans of the region to deploy more efforts in terms of creation, innovation, and preservation of the authentic Moroccan Sahrawi heritage.
