An ophthalmology medical campaign was organised last weekend in Boujdour for the benefit of the local population, to meet the needs in this specialty.
Some 300 needy people benefited, last Saturday at the headquarters of the Associative Space of the Boujdour prefecture, from a medical campaign in favour of patients suffering from eye diseases. This aimed to take care of visually impaired people or those suffering from eye diseases from needy families, and to bring medical services closer to citizens and support these social strata.
"This campaign, organised in partnership with the Agency for Socio-Economic Development of the Southern Provinces, contributes to bringing medical services closer to the inhabitants, and was very well received by the population of the city of Boujdour, notably women and elderly people from disadvantaged social strata who cannot get treated or afford a pair of medical glasses," confided Sidi Brahim Khayi, the president of the Roya association, organiser of this campaign. He added that this medical campaign allowed for the screening of a certain number of eye diseases that could experience complications among the patients who presented themselves. According to him, this campaign also falls within the framework of the humanitarian efforts provided by the association to help disadvantaged populations by allowing them access to quality care.
To succeed in this campaign, a medical team composed of several specialist eye surgery doctors who came from Rabat and several nurses from the medical centres of Boujdour was mobilised, as well as a social assistance team that presented the necessary advice and help to the beneficiaries.
This campaign, the first of its kind in the Boujdour province, focused on surgical interventions for the benefit of blind or visually impaired people suffering from cataracts, as well as the medical care of people suffering from other eye diseases.
Let us recall that health coverage in the Boujdour province, whose population is estimated at more than 50,000 people, remains below the aspirations of these citizens. The region is experiencing a shortage of medical personnel, especially specialists, essentially due to the high mobility that the local medical corps is experiencing.
