The coastguards managed to abort an operation intended for the transport to the Canary Islands of some 180 kg of chira. The cargo, which was on board a boat, was escorted by 10 Moroccans from Safi, candidates for clandestine emigration.
The boat, which was supposed to weigh anchor from Agfoule, off the coast of Boujdour, broke down, which required the intervention of the coastguards who noticed the presence of drums containing the drugs and immediately warned the Royal Gendarmerie. An investigation was launched, according to sources who confirmed the existence of a drug trafficking and clandestine immigration network operating from Safi, via Boujdour, to the Canary Islands.
