2024: A severe heatwave claimed the lives of 21 people in one day in Beni Mellal – Al-Yaoum 24

In the summer of 2024, specifically on 25 July, the city of Beni Mellal witnessed a severe heatwave that claimed the lives of 21 people in one day. The Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region reported that the majority of the victims were elderly and those with chronic diseases, as the significant rise in temperatures contributed to the deterioration of their health condition and led to their death.
The Regional Directorate of Health had revealed at the time that the Regional Hospital Centre in Beni Mellal recorded 21 deaths, including 4 cases outside the hospital walls and 17 hospital deaths. The excessive heat contributed to the deterioration of the patients' health condition, especially with the lack of necessary medical equipment to deal with such emergency cases.
