A scientific awareness day themed "Ramadan and Health" was organized recently in Beni Mellal at the initiative of the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques under the Sultan Moulay Slimane University. Organized in collaboration with the provincial delegation of Health of Beni Mellal, this meeting aimed to provide information on the attitudes and behaviors to adopt during Ramadan for sick people, especially those suffering from chronic diseases.
The provincial delegate of Health of Beni Mellal, Rachid Chihab, indicated that this day was an opportunity to sensitize citizens, especially diabetic people or those suffering from hypertension, regarding the precautions to take during this holy month to avoid any complication of their health status. He specified, in a statement to the MAP, that most sick people were forced, during Ramadan, to change the times of taking their medication, adding that this change must imperatively be done after consultation with their doctors to avoid any negative effect on their health.
For his part, Abdelmajid Ziad, a teacher at the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques of Beni Mellal, stressed that the month of Ramadan caused changes in people's lifestyles, especially those suffering from chronic diseases. He noted that this day also made it possible to shed light on the different cases of diseases, now allowing patients to take the necessary precautions during this holy month. Ziad noted, moreover, that research undertaken with the aim of determining the effectiveness and safety of fasting on health has shown positive results in the treatment of many disorders, notably food intolerance, hypertension, congestive heart failure, gout, and certain psychosomatic diseases.
