Urban upgrading of Béni Mellal

A total budget of 407.3 million dirhams (MDH), including 266 million as a contribution from the Ministry of Housing, Urbanisation and Urban Policy, has been mobilised as part of the implementation of the comprehensive programme for urban upgrading and the fight against substandard housing in the city of Béni Mellal.

According to data from the Regional Housing Inspectorate, the ministry has contributed over the last ten years to several projects, notably the relocation of slum dwellers (317 units) as part of the national "Cities without Slums" programme, with a budget of nearly 29.84 MDH.

In the same vein, a technical and geophysical study was carried out for the rehabilitation of the old Medina of Béni Mellal, the relocation of inhabitants of 2,781 houses at risk of collapse (nearly 2 MDH), the relocation of 423 families (14.2 MDH), the extension and reinforcement of the sewage network for 3,993 units (19.5 MDH), and the relocation of 120 families into social housing (16.4 DH).

Similarly, the ministry contributed to the financing of a geotechnical study for the rehabilitation of 200 units at risk of collapse (3 MDH) and the settlement of the situation of the inhabitants of 800 other houses at risk of collapse (28.59 MDH).

Regarding urban upgrading, the programme concerned road redevelopment and liquid sanitation projects in several neighbourhoods and boulevards of the city, with a total budget of 243 MDH.
