The artist-painter from Assilah has once again distinguished herself through the use of beach sand, plants, pieces of tree branches, and dead leaves, etc., in the creation of her new works, some of which are ephemeral.
After a long absence, Kawtar Chrigui returns to the artistic scene with an exhibition of her new paintings, the opening of which took place on Saturday, 28 December, in Assilah. This new exhibition is composed of more than twenty works that the artist-painter from Assilah created during the year 2024, in parallel with her supervision of workshops for children organized by the Assilah Forum Foundation, as part of the city's cultural Moussem and throughout the year. "The creation of my new paintings was a challenge I set for myself to finish before the end of 2024. I am very happy to have succeeded in this challenge of completing this work in less than a year and thus contributing to the animation of my hometown during this end-of-year period. It is also a reason to be ambitious and even more confident in my abilities and an encouragement to embark on the relentless preparation for other exhibitions," says Kawtar Chrigui.
This exhibition holds a special significance for the artist-painter from Assilah, as it reflects a large part of her soul and testifies to her love for nature and its splendor since her childhood. As with her previous works, "I was inspired by nature for this exhibition. The specific imprint of Assilah, my hometown, is very present through its landscapes and its blue color, offering visitors a feeling of serenity and peace," explains Kawtar Chrigui.
In this exhibition, the artist-painter has managed to distinguish herself through the use of beach sand, plants, small pieces of tree branches, and dead leaves, etc., in the creation of her new works, some of which are ephemeral. "I used all these materials that I borrowed from nature for the preparation of my new exhibition. I wanted to resurrect them through my works and in another living environment that I designed for them. In short, my new paintings testify to the evolution of my style and my fascination with nature and its components, such as the beauty and scent of the rosemary I used in this exhibition," reports Kawtar Chrigui.
A graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) in Tetouan, she attended art workshops for children during her childhood, like most artists from Assilah, organized during the first editions of the Assilah Cultural Moussem. "I feel lucky, like most children in Assilah, to have attended these first workshops under the direction of great artists and art specialists, such as the Italian critic Toni Maraini. I learn every year as an artist or head of the children's workshop from the participants I meet during these moussems," emphasized Kawtar Chrigui.
