Like other seaside towns, Asilah needs a real animation plan to reduce the tourism seasonality from which it suffers. To this end, and for the second consecutive year, the white city is hosting the Tourism Week, whose activities will begin on Tuesday 15 April with a symposium under the theme: "Cultural tourism and the challenges of sustainable development". Initiated by the League of Tourism Sector Actors of Asilah, this second Week maintains, according to the organisers, the same objective as the previous edition, namely to highlight, in addition to the beautiful and immense beaches, the other tourist sites that the city has. "We are seeking, through this week, to de-seasonalise the destination of Asilah. Like the previous edition, we have chosen for this event the Semana Santa (Easter holidays), when the city experiences an influx of tourists, particularly Spaniards," says Saâd Jebari, director of this second Week and president of the League. While maintaining its seaside vocation, Asilah has become, over the last thirty years, a city of arts and cultures par excellence, thanks to its cultural Moussem organised since the early 70s by the Asilah Forum Foundation. "We highlight the importance of the Asilah cultural Moussem which has succeeded in making the city known at the international level. But we are encouraging the programming of other events throughout the year. This will allow professionals to extend the season beyond July and August," Mr Jebari points out. It should be noted that the activities of this second Week will be held intra-muros, notably at the Hassan II Centre for International Meetings and the large Abdellah Guenoun Square (at the foot of the famous Kamra tower). The organisers thus want to help visitors discover the old Medina with its multiple historical and tourist sites, as well as the old Portuguese ramparts overlooking the sea on one side and the city on the other. This second Week, which is distinguished by a programme rich in activities, constitutes an opportunity to address the various problems from which the sector suffers. In addition to the absence of Asilah's tourism actors within the Regional Tourism Council (CRT), "the city suffers from the lack of a promotion policy, particularly in the Spanish market which constitutes the primary source market," explains Mohamed El Hanine, in charge of monitoring developments and investments at the Tangier delegation. This official continues that Asilah's tourism actors are called upon to integrate or be represented within the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) - Tangier-Tetouan. "The city needs the establishment of an information kiosk, thanks to a partnership agreement between the CRT, the Municipal Council of Asilah and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services and the regional council," stressed Mr El Hanine, before concluding that "this should be reinforced by the organisation, during the low season, and in close collaboration with the commune of Tangier, of a series of cultural, artistic and sporting events".
