The white city will be equipped with a large modern three-storey market. This is at least what emerged from the extraordinary session of the Asilah municipal council held on Monday, January 6, at the Hassan II Centre for International Meetings. Chaired by Mohamed Benaïssa, president of the said municipal council, the work of this assembly was marked by the examination and approval of the two minutes of the administrative evaluation commission, relating respectively to the land intended to house the daily market as well as a refrigeration and fish storage facility, located at the central market of Asilah.
Furthermore, the future daily market of the city will be built on a 7,400 m2 plot in the Lalla Rahma neighbourhood. The communal council has decided, in this regard, to resort to the expropriation procedure to carry out this project. The same commission has set the price per square metre at some 450 DH for the registered part of the land (3,100 m2), while the price is set at 400 DH for the other unregistered part (4,300 m2). The acquisition of the entire plot, which is subject to expropriation, requires a budget of more than 3 million DH.
Highly anticipated by the population of Asilah, the realisation of this important modern commercial infrastructure aims to improve commercial activities and organise informal trade in Asilah. It is, according to those responsible for this project, a large covered commercial complex (on two levels) designed to meet the needs of both traders and consumers.
And given the very high cost of the work to build the future daily market, the elected officials approved taking out a loan from the Communal Equipment Fund (FEC) to finance this project. Note that the operating price of the refrigeration and fish storage facility, located at the central market and owned by the municipality of Asilah, was set by the evaluation commission at 2,000 DH.
The specifications relating to this operation of exploiting the communal property were approved during the previous ordinary session of the municipal council in July 2013.
As part of the cities targeted within the framework of the city policy, Asilah will see the realisation of several other projects, including the construction of a craft complex and a bus station.
