Increase in arrivals in Agadir at the end of July 2014

Tourism activity in Agadir recorded, during the first seven months of 2014, an increase of 4.80% in arrivals and 4.49% in overnight stays in the city's classified hotel establishments compared to the same period of the previous year.

The number of tourists thus went from 479,874 at the end of July 2013 to 502,915 visitors received at the end of July 2014, while that of overnight stays reached 2,521,563 against 2,413,246, according to a report by the Agadir Regional Tourism Council.

The average length of stay, for its part, recorded a stagnation at the end of July 2014, i.e., 5.01 against 5.03 during the same period a year earlier, the report specified, noting that the average occupancy rate in the classified hotels of the city of Agadir increased by 0.27%, going from 51.62% at the end of July 2013 to 51.89% at the end of July 2014.

For the month of July alone, which coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, tourism activity recorded an increase of 5.13% in arrivals (64,991 against 61,820 in July 2013), and a decrease of 1.83% in overnight stays (373,397 against 380,368 in July 2013).

The most significant increases in terms of tourist arrivals were recorded at the level of the Polish market (+58.6%), the national market (+4.15%), England (+9.74%), Saudi Arabia (+37.16%), and Belgium (+2.88%).

For their part, the overnight stays relating to the markets of Poland, England, and Belgium increased respectively by 50.26%, 6.08%, and 5.83%, while those of the national market, France, Saudi Arabia, and Holland recorded respective decreases of 9.55%, 5.29%, 20.23%, and 30.35%.

The average length of stay recorded a decrease to 5.75 last July against 6.15 a year earlier, added the CRT, noting that the average occupancy rate in the classified hotels of the city of Agadir fell to 46.86% in July 2014 against 50.22% in July 2013.

The report also noted that 15 hotel establishments, with a capacity of 9,718 beds, recorded an average occupancy rate of 80.92%, while 20 hotel establishments (6,618 beds) displayed an average rate of 40.70% and 49 other establishments (11,025 beds) have a rate of 15.07%.
