Moroccan craftsmanship in the spotlight

Moroccan craftsmanship in the spotlight

A space has been set up on an area estimated at 2,400 m2, at Place Bijawane, in the heart of the seaside zone, to receive more than 80 exhibitors from different regions of the Kingdom and to welcome a heterogeneous public, including the inhabitants of the city and Moroccan and foreign tourists. This event, dedicated to Moroccan craftsmanship, was organised, from 18 to 25 April, by the Agadir Chamber of Crafts and the council of the Souss-Massa-Darâa (SMD) region, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Crafts, under the banner "Moroccan craftsmanship, identity, cohabitation and openness". And as tradition dictates, this edition saw the participation of artisans and cooperatives operating in the field of crafts, including 23 exhibitors from the province of Agadir Idaoutanane, 16 from Taroudant, 14 from Inezgane, 10 from Tiznit, 5 from Chtouka Ait Baha and 4 from Sidi Ifni. As for the other chambers, they were distributed over seven pavilions. These are those of Ouarzazate and Smara which occupied one pavilion each and those of Marrakech, Safi and Tétouan which shared a single pavilion.

The choice of exhibitors was made according to the required criteria, involving the use of transparency and respect for the principle of alternation. This task was entrusted to a commission made up of the president of the chamber of crafts and the provincial directors.

It should be emphasised that participation in the events of this fair is free and that priority was given to distinct and quality products. The Gender approach, being taken into consideration in the choice of exhibitors, the Fair also saw the participation of Moroccan women artisans. The programme of the event covered a series of activities with a cognitive aspect, organised on the sidelines of the event's manifestations, including presentations articulated around the regional development plan for crafts in the SMD region, around the horizons of the craft sectors, and the problems from which they suffer and around training in the craft sector.

Round tables were also held on the sidelines of the event. They focused on a series of subjects related to the sector and its development. These are, in this case, the transition from an informal sector to a structured sector, the tools and the impact of this transition, the role of the CRI in supporting artisans with projects, the support of the SMD initiative Association for artisans' projects and, finally, the interdependence persisting between crafts and tourism. Also, recreational activities were organised on the same occasion, including the artistic evening which saw the participation of several Moroccan artists and folklore troupes. Tribute to several personalities. The organisation of this fair constituted an occasion for consecration. It is noted, in this regard, that a tribute was paid, at the end of the closing ceremony, to several personalities who have contributed to the development of the sector and its flourishing. It thus constituted an occasion to reward talent, creativity and distinction. Two Prizes were awarded on this occasion, these are the Prize for the best stand and the best artisanal product.

This edition, being registered in the land policy adopted by the supervisory ministry, aiming at the promotion of the Moroccan artisanal product and the improvement of the conditions of development of the artisans and the cooperatives to which they belong on an evaluative basis, in accordance with the remarks of Hassan Marzouqi, president of the Crafts Commission at the SMD regional council, was crowned with success and that it should be considered, as a result, as being a setting in place of the necessary milestones for the promotion of Moroccan craftsmanship which aims to be emerging, competitive and promising.
