Kick-off in Agadir of a sensitisation caravan on human rights

The kick-off of a sensitisation and information caravan, initiated from April 27 to June 16 by the Regional Human Rights Commission (CRDH) in Agadir, was given on Saturday at Aït Souss Square in Agadir.

The launch ceremony of this initiative took place in the presence, in particular, of the president of the National Human Rights Council, Driss El Yazami, the president of the CRDH Agadir Mohamed Charef, and several associative actors, in addition to a galaxy of artists taking part in the International Documentary Film Festival of Agadir (FIDADOC), whose work continues until the 28th of the current month.

Placed under the banner "Human rights, protection, promotion, and enrichment: our mission", this initiative comes within the framework of the implementation of the attributions of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and its regional commissions in terms of protection of human rights, dissemination of the culture related to it, and consecration of the values of responsible citizenship in the fields of education, teaching, training, information, and sensitisation.

It is intended, according to its initiators, as a declination of the citizen platform dedicated to the promotion of human rights and the participatory and proximity approach advocated by the CRDH, in accordance with the resolutions issued from its fourth session held on March 30.

The caravan thus aims to make known the role of the CRDH and to involve local actors and partners in the consecration of the culture of human rights at the local level through the implementation of programmes related to the protection, promotion, and enrichment of these rights.

It also aims to strengthen exchanges with the CNDH by highlighting the role and actions of its regional commissions in terms of mediation between society and the administration, to consolidate coordination and cooperation with civil society through the mobilisation of experts, public figures, and local actors in the consecration of culture and human rights at all levels of education, to promote scientific research in the matter, and to support the skills of the media in terms of monitoring and observation.

Returning to the importance of this approach, Mr. El Yazami emphasised the imperative of multiplying the channels of dissemination and transmission of the culture of human rights, maintaining that one can no longer keep this notion "in certain closed clubs or in certain specialised NGOs, but all citizens must have access to this culture".

He assured that the CNDH, which has 13 regional commissions, wants to go to meet other partners to disseminate this culture, stressing the imperative of finding pedagogical tools that are adapted to the different target populations.

After the Agadir stage (April 27-28), this caravan will set course for Tiznit (May 5-6), Taroudant (May 10-12), Chtouka Aït Baha (June 1-2), Tata (June 8-9), and Inzegane (June 15-16).
