Work is underway to expropriate 21 plots of land at the level of the Fida-Mers Sultan district prefectures in the Casablanca-Settat region in the context of the high-speed rail line project between Kenitra and Marrakech.
The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelssamad Kayouh, according to the new issue of the Official Gazette, decided to authorise the expropriation of these lands necessary for the construction of the new high-speed rail line that will reach the city of Marrakech.
According to the same decision issued last December, Kayouh delegated the right to expropriate these lands to the Director General of the National Office of Railways (ONCF), Mohamed Rabie Khlie, and they are located specifically "between the kilometric points 01+173 and 03+380 in the Mers Sultan district in the Fida-Mers Sultan prefecture in the Casablanca-Settat region".
This decision was based on Decree No. 2.23.1019 issued on November 22, 2023, which states that "public utility requires the construction of a high-speed rail line between Kenitra and Marrakech".
According to a descriptive table of these plots of land, they include "plots of land, apartments, courtyards, real estate, and vacant plots of land...".
The government is racing against time to build the new high-speed rail line to reach the city of Marrakech in the context of Morocco's preparations to host the "2030 World Cup".
Three days ago, the National Office of Railways held its board of directors meeting in the presence of Minister Kayouh, and said in a statement that it is "committed to promoting sustainable transport through new projects, including the launch of an additional high-speed line and the expansion of the electric train network (RER) within the framework of a long-term vision aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2030".
According to the same source, the 2025 budget "focuses on the requirements of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup", and "aims to achieve an increase in the number of passengers to 57 million and transport 21 million tonnes of goods, in addition to exceeding a turnover of 5 billion dirhams", stressing that "investment is based on structuring projects, most notably the expansion of the high-speed train network, the launch of the regional train service, and the construction of new stations in preparation for the 2030 World Cup".
