Faced with a persistent drought for five years, regional agriculture is suffering heavy losses, a surge in production costs and growing debt that is weakening all farms.
During his plea, Mr. Kandil denounced the inadequacy of public aid in the face of the scale of the crisis, as well as the persistent obstacles to accessing agricultural insurance, particularly for potato and tomato producers. He stressed the urgency of strengthening financial and technical support for farmers while calling for an expansion of the Chamber's prerogatives in order to improve its role of support and advice.
Faced with this critical situation, the President of the Regional Chamber of Agriculture of Casablanca-Settat pleaded for a re-evaluation of the resources allocated to the Chamber, a simplification of aid procedures and the implementation of emergency measures in order to avoid the collapse of the sector. Insisting on the need for a rapid and coordinated response, he called for a concerted mobilisation of public authorities, financial institutions and farmers' representatives to build a resilience strategy in the face of climate and economic challenges.
This session concluded with a commitment from the members present to intensify exchanges with the competent authorities in order to identify concrete solutions and to put in place a more effective intervention framework serving the farmers of the Casablanca-Settat region.
