Launch of a Gambusia fish stocking operation

This operation concerns the stocking of the sites of the Al Massira, Tamesna, Imfout, Douarate, Sidi Maâchou, Rouida, Sidi Daoui, Oued Mellah, Hassar, Dayas de Fahs, Fertouaou, Ouarar, Shiba, Slalef and Taghasroul dams.

The Regional Directorate of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification has just launched a regional operation for stocking Gambusia fish (Gambusia affinis) in dam reservoirs, marshes, swamps, river mouths and natural ponds located in the territory of the Casablanca-Settat region.

Launched in partnership with the National Centre for Hydrobiology and Pisciculture (CNHP), which falls under the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, this operation concerns the stocking of the sites of the Al Massira, Tamesna, Imfout, Douarate, Sidi Maâchou, Rouida, Sidi Daoui, Oued Mellah, Hassar, Dayas de Fahs, Fertouaou, Ouarar, Shiba, Slalef and Taghasroul dams, indicates a statement from the Directorate on Friday.

The ponds of Hay Hassani and Aïn Chock, the Sidi Moussa lagoon complex and the river sections and their mouths of Oued Merzeg and Mohammedia are also concerned by this operation, the same source specifies.

The dissemination of this entomophagous fish "Gambusia" in stagnant or low-flow water bodies will allow a significant reduction in mosquito larval populations (epidemiological vectors) as well as a noticeable decrease in mosquito aggression rates.
