Bouhouda (Province of Taounate) – The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity launched, on Thursday, a major medical-surgical campaign in the commune of Bouhouda, located 17 km from Taounate, for the benefit of the populations of this province.
This initiative, which will continue until March 22, is part of the Foundation's medical-humanitarian activities linked to the month of Ramadan.
Through this campaign, the Foundation aims to facilitate access to specialised healthcare for approximately 4,500 people from the commune of Bouhouda and ten other neighbouring communes.
A centralised platform has been set up to offer specialised services, screening for cataract cases and the fitting of people with physical disabilities.
The system includes reception, registration and vital signs recording areas, a fitting workshop and specialised medicine stations, including one reserved for tele-expertise.
These spaces are complemented by 11 mobile medical units, intended for consultations in different specialities (ophthalmology, gynaecology, dental care...), biological analyses, ultrasound explorations and the distribution of medicines.
In a statement to MAP, the head of the medical-humanitarian division at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Noureddine Ratbi, stressed that this platform offers comprehensive care for patients in various medical specialities, ranging from obstetrics-gynaecology to cardiology, including paediatrics and gastroenterology, without forgetting dental care.
“Citizens also benefit from an integrated care pathway including medical analyses, X-rays, ultrasounds and distribution of appropriate medicines”, he added, specifying that “the major innovation of this campaign lies in the introduction of a platform dedicated to telemedicine, thus allowing access to specialised consultations remotely”.
For him, this initiative is in line with the national programme of local medical campaigns led by the Foundation.
“This is the fourth campaign organised this year, after those of Zagora, Tan-Tan and Berkane, he detailed, noting that this programme will continue throughout the year”.
To ensure optimal care, significant human, technical and logistical resources have been deployed. A team of 120 people is participating in this medical campaign, including doctors, executives, social workers and technicians from the Foundation, 32 specialist doctors including 8 ophthalmological surgeons, 10 general practitioners and 20 nurses, supported by volunteers in charge of accompanying the populations.
“Today, about 1500 beneficiaries have been taken care of so far, taking advantage of all the services offered that have been put in place. We expect that about 1500 beneficiaries will be taken care of daily over the three days, in addition to the cataract operations performed at the provincial hospital of Taounate”, specified Mr. Ratbi.
At the end of his consultation at the Fixed Prostheses for limb replacement service, Hicham expressed in a statement to MAP his deep gratitude to the Foundation.
“I would never have thought I could benefit from such a medical service so close to home”, confides this 41-year-old young man, living in a commune neighbouring Bouhouda.
Suffering from partial paralysis of the right leg, he was able to consult the specialists present during this campaign.
“Before, I had to travel to Fez for my consultations, which represented a real physical and financial ordeal. Today, not only was I able to meet a specialist doctor without breaking the bank, but I was also promised a fitting adapted to my disability in the coming weeks”, he rejoiced.
“This initiative of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity gives hope to people like me who live far from urban centres”, he testifies with emotion.
From January to March 2025, the Foundation led three similar campaigns in Zagora, Tan-Tan and Berkane. They made it possible to take care of 7,659 people, including 5,030 women, and to carry out 249 surgical interventions (cataract, general and infantile surgery, circumcisions) and 14,874 medical acts and specialised care.
According to those in charge of the initiative, this new campaign is part of the dynamic of bringing care closer to rural populations, relieving them and contributing to improving their well-being.
The success of this operation relies on a partnership with local actors, including local authorities, the province of Taounate, the University Hospital Centre (CHU) Hassan II of Fez, the regional directorate of health and social protection of Fez-Meknes, the provincial delegation of health and social protection of Taounate, as well as the provincial hospital. Other partners are involved, such as the association of friends of the visually impaired, the provincial association for support to patients with kidney failure of Taounate, the Isaad association and the order of dentists of Fez and its surroundings.
